Opening Ceremony Of The 4th Meeting Of The Coordination Committee Of Women Parliamentarians Of The Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (WAIPA)

KUCHING, 22 April 2025 – The 4th Meeting of the Coordination Committee of Women Parliamentarians of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (WAIPA) officially commenced earlier today at the Damai Lagoon Resort in Kuching, Sarawak.

The event began with welcoming remarks by H.E. Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty, Secretary General of AIPA, followed by an opening address by H.E. Tan Sri Dato' (Dr.) Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of AIPA. The Right Honourable Premier of Sarawak, also delivered remarks, expressing support for the committee’s objectives. This meeting serves as a platform to focus on strategies to enhance women’s leadership and representation in ASEAN parliaments.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance were H.E. Senator Dato Awang Bemee bin Awang Ali Basah, President of the Senate; Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak; H.E. Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Speaker of the State Assembly of Sarawak; and Alice Lau Kiong Yieng, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
